Christmas Sewing Frenzy Part Four: Roy Rogers Bag

buckle

My brother’s former employer used to send him to work in China. On one of the flights, he sat next to a woman – they talked for the entire flight. Over the years, they kept in contact with one another – she even emailed me. She works in fabric manufacturing in Asia!

She finally got a visa (not easy for a Chinese citizen) and will be traveling to the US. She’ll be spending Christmas with my family. I wanted to make her something – and picked this KwikSew pattern. I was going to make the bag out of some fabric she sent me, but then I found these Roy Rogers/Dale Evans fat quarters! Yes, it had to be made from something that screamed “USA! USA!”

I added a vintage buckle on one side and a zippered pocket on the other side.

The inside is finished off with bias tape. This was a pain to sew in. I have never done anything like this before, but I figured it out pretty quickly. I had to go back in and re-sew two spots that I didn’t catch.

 Giddy Up!
