Diaper Changing Pad: Sample

I saw a great pattern for a diaper changing pad at Pickup Some Creativity. While I loved the final product, there were some things that I didn't want...namely, all those ties. I know I'd never tie them. I also wanted to make one quickly and easily. I did some measuring and testing and retooling and came up with a different design that's based on the original.

Here's round one of the sample. Excuse the poor lighting and slopping sewing. I was in a hurry! And I cranked this out in no time!

When it's open it's about 22" wide and 27" tall.

There is a pocket at the bottom - barely visible!

The pad has batting sandwiched in between the outside and inside. I used high loft (8 oz) batting in the little pillow/head rest at the top. I flatted in with an iron so I could sew it. It pops back up eventually!

Fold the sides in.

Fold bottom up.

Slip the handle into the slot.

Done! It's 9 1/2" tall and 11 1/2" wide when it's folded up.

The last step would be to add bias tape around the outside.

I plan to make one with a minky or PUL inside and Star Wars fabric on the outside. YAY! Can't wait to get started.

Once I get everything finalized, I'll post the free pattern.

Now I need to go mow my lawn. Ahhh...summer!
